This year’s Clear The Shelters will be an adoption event like no other, and the Fort Worth Animal Shelter has 500 pets waiting to be adopted into loving homes. It’s a one-day national pet adoption initiative with all adoption fees waived.
Last year the Fort Worth community found homes for 300 pets.
The Fort Worth Animal Shelter is teaming with NBC5, Telemundo23 and more than 60 North Texas animal shelters to find loving and forever homes for pets in need, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17.
“The summer months are notoriously the time when we have the most intakes,” said Dr. Tim Morton, assistant director of Code Compliance. “But this year has been a huge challenge for us with higher than normal numbers of animals entering the shelter. We’re confident our community will come out and support this great adoption event.”
The shelter encourages families to attend, especially kids, so everyone is contributing to the conversation about which dog or cat will be the best for the family. And don’t forget the current family dog. Shelter staff encourages a “meet and greet” between potential new pet siblings.
Adoptions will take place at three locations:
- The main campus at 4900 Martin St.
- PetSmart Adoption Center, I-20 at Hulen Street.
- PetSmart Adoption Center, I-35W at Heritage Trace Parkway.
Pets from the Fort Worth Animal Shelter are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated.
